Lacquer artist – Yasuhiro Asai

Lacquer artist – Yasuhiro Asai

I was born on the 9th of July in 1983. During my early childhood I spent many days in school refusal as getting used to school was difficult. Eventually I enrolled in Okayama’s boarding school (Kibikōgengakuen Senior High School). There I had my first encounter with maki-e and in order to learn more about lacquer art I enrolled in Takaoka National College. Soon after my graduation I became the apprentice of Tokyo Mejiro based Mr. Kazumi Murose to acquire even more advanced maki-e techniques. Subsequently I became independent and started making my own lacquer pieces of art. Ultimately I graduated from Musashino Art University, faculty of correspondence education.
