Selection Reasons
・While honoring the tradition of urushi lacquer art, he has also innovated with new forms of expression. His works have been collected by the British Museum in London and received the Kinki Prize, the highest award at the Japan Traditional Kōgei Kinki Exhibition. He has been highly evaluated both domestically and internationally. Additionally, he actively disseminates information through videos about his production and works, and holds events for planting urushi trees.
・In the past, urushi harvesting was also actively carried out in our prefecture, but now domestic urushi sap is extremely rare. By planting urushi trees and harvesting urushi sap in Tottori Prefecture and creating all his works using urushi from within the prefecture, he has made the value of domestic urushi known and widely demonstrated its possibilities.
